John O'Donnell was formerly the Program Director and Chair of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at the University of Pittsburgh which he founded in 2014, As of July 1, 2025, Dr. O'Donnell was promoted to the role of Senior Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning at Pitt. Dr. O'Donnell has been a CRNA for 34 years and has published and presented extensively during his career. He is recognized as an international simulation expert, holds CHSE certification, was one of the first CRNAs to be recognized as a Fellow of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and teaches simulation faculty development courses around the world. He remains very involved in Nurse Anesthesia education and accreditation and is the immediate past-President of the COA where he continues to serve as an Educator Director.
